NAKSTY GRUBBINS was crafted in the nine months from 2011 to 2012 that TOM PHONIC had moved from Brooklyn to Seattle to live with IFTHEN who was working with DJ SHVR at AWARE HOUSE STUDIOS. IFTHEN and TOM PHONIC have a long history of collaboration from St. Louis to New York to Seattle including both THE OLOGY full albums and countless one off tracks. DJ SHVR and IFTHEN worked together for years in Seattle on TOKEN FOLK albums, shows, and mixes. NAKSTY GRUBBINS is a true collaboration piece in that all three members had a hand in each step of the process whether tapping out rhythms on pads, composing synth lines, creating custom samples, or laying out the compositions. Upon TOM PHONIC's return to NYC, the final vocal takes were recorded at THE BLACK LABORATORY and subsequently mixed and mastered by Jewels Hunter in Seattle, WA.

In those nine months, wives, girlfriends, and children were extremely patient with our absence from anywhere but Aware House Studios. Thanks goes to them first for the support. Secondly, thanks to all conspirators involved in the album: Jewels Hunter, Man Danno, Kelly Young, Michael Puglisi, Michael Crossley, Tim Stead, and the gas station attendant at Shell on 4th and Lander.
